Painting 7: The sketch

For this painting I was having a bit of a mental block and a complete lack of inspiration. I tend to get bored easily, so to keep things novel, I move from figurative to abstract and alternate styles, just to keep it fresh. But this time I just didn’t know what to paint next. I used a couple of sketch pads trying to come up with something new and cool, but all the sketches ended up in the bin. In the end, I went back to basics and revisited the good old reliable swirl. So this painting is a bunch of swirls, but I decided to refract the colours as the swirl moves along and partition the colours by block, rather than have the colour run smoothly along each curvature. Its an experiment, and I have no idea how it will turn out! But I have decided to give it a go and chance it. No pain, no gain, right?
